It’s that time of year. End of the year specials, end of the decade reviews. SOAPnet has named Robin & Patrick as one of their Top 25 Soap Couples of the Decade. Here’s what they had to say about the duo: “The ultimate workplace romance. Robin returned to Port Charles a strong, willful, smart doctor. She wasn’t about to take any crap from a self-involved man-ho like Patrick Drake. But their conflict sparked romance, and P.C.’s strongest relationship blossomed.”

Daytime Confidential also has a poll up for Lead Actress of the Decade and Kimberly McCullough is one of the choices. We here at the Kimberly McCullough Connection adore Kimberly, but we think Daytime Confidential’s poll is a little off. If Kimberly had the story and airtime that comes with being a “Lead Actress,” there would be a lot more happy Robin fans out there. Heck, they have Bethany Joy Galeotti listed for lead and she was on Guiding Light for 10 months in a supporting role this decade! Kelly Monaco is listed on their supporting ballot! Girl has 10x more airtime and story than Kimberly. Doesn’t make much sense, but we support Kimberly, so go on ahead and vote for her over there. If we see any other end of the decade/year lists that feature Kimberly, we’ll be sure to let you know!

I added a scan featuring Robin, Patrick & Lisa from this week’s SOD. I don’t have their scan from SID, but here’s what they talk about regarding their contracts:

KMc & JT fans have something to celebrate…they signed on the dotted line.

“We re-signed” confirms KMc “We’ll be around for a little bit. We’re going to tell this story that we are telling right now, and then we’ll see what happens after that. But I’m definitely committed to the show and the character, for sure”

When it came time to sit down with EP JFP & HW Guza to talk about Robin & Patrick’s future Thompson knew what mattered most to him “I want to make out time here count.” he says “That came into my mind. When I was talking with Jill about it, I said there was a part of me that wasn’t done [playing] this guy yet. I feel like there’s more to do. I just don’t think they’re done there yet. I would be sad to leave it right now.” –via SoapZone

In this week’s issue, Soap Opera Digest has named Kimberly McCullough’s 2005 return as Robin Scorpio as one of soap’s best in the past few years. Yay! I added the scan to the gallery today.

We Love Soaps columnist Damon Jacobs has posted Part Three of his interview series with the legendary soap scribe, Claire Labine. In this part of the rare and epic interview with KMC’s favorite soap writer, Claire Labine talks about General Hospital and how the Robin & Stone storyline came to be. Here’s a highlight from the interview:

“The degree of ignorance of AIDS in that era was stunning! People really thought you could catch it by shaking hands. I did feel impassioned about that story. I got the fastest approval for that story ever. We were at a retreat with Pat [Fili-Krushel, head of ABC daytime from 1993-2000]. We were at breakfast and Wendy said, ‘What we really need is a Romeo and Juliet story.’ And it just came to me: ‘Stone is HIV positive and he and Robin become lovers and she’s infected.’ Pat looked at me and said, ‘Can you really make a story out of that?’ And I said, ‘You bet we can.’ And she said, ‘Approved!’ And she let us do it!

At the very end, just before Robin’s diagnosis, Pat called and asked, ‘Does she really really have to be HIV positive?’ And I said, ‘Well, if she isn’t the whole story is pointless.’ She said, ‘Alright, but this is breaking my heart.’ I said, ‘Good! That what it’s intended to do!’ So if it depressed people, I’m sorry. Was it what we intended to do? You bet!”

In Part Four of the series, Claire talks about Luke & Laura, Sonny & Brenda, the Jason Morgan creation, Carly Roberts, the Nurses Ball and the disappearance of the Quartermaines.
